On 2nd December 2011 Miss Shilton & Mr Ward took 12 students down to London to visit the Houses of Parliament. It was an early start; meeting at Leeds Train Station at 6:30am in time for a McDonalds’ breakfast! Everyone arrived in good time and all were dressed to impress, Ramsy even came equipped with a brief case, supporting very important documents, namely the Sun newspaper! The students travelled on the Tube like native Londoners, calling at Oxford circus to visit the famous Hamley’s toy store, before cruising down Bond Street to the next station. We stopped off to see the London eye and walked round Big Ben towards security at the Black Rod Garden Gate Entrance to meet Lord Anthony St. John, who inherited his position in the Houses of Parliament because he is a life peer. The students discovered that all the laws of the land are kept in Victoria Tower and if that were to blow up or be destroyed we would lose all the Acts of Parliament ever created. Mr Ward was particularly excited about the ‘real piece of history’ that we saw which was the Death Warrant for King Charles I. He was charged with Treason and there was a command on his head. The students were informed that phrases such as; ‘It’s in the bag’, ‘Tow the line’; and ‘Stab you in the back’ all originated from inside the House of Commons.

War Horse (The Film) Steven Spielberg reviewed by 9B2
Yesterday 18th January 2012 9B2 took a trip to Vue Cinema Leeds to watch War Horse with Miss Drew and Mr Smith. All of the pupils got on the Number1 bus to town. We all queued to buy our tickets, some of us got 2for1 if we had an orange network. We all got settled into our seats (Not VIP I might add!) eating our refreshments. All of 9B2 had a set task to jot down ideas about the actors, characters, special effects or music in the film. Jeremy Irvine plays the character Albert, this was his first film and I’ve got to admit he was fantastic! In the film he gets very attached to Joey, his horse, when he gets sold to the army at the start of World War I, Albert got very emotional. Jeremy Irvine played that part very well, his performance was very believable. The movie was brilliant, it was quite sad at times but it was thrilling to watch especially the part where Joey races through No-mans land and gets tangled up in barbed wire… The question on everyone’s lips was ‘Does Albert get re-united with Joey and survive the trenches?’ I guess you’ll have to see it to find out… Year 9 gave this fantastic film a whooping 8 out of 10! |

Can you help the Music Department please? If you have an MP3 player that you no longer use or need we can give it a really good home! We need to give our students recordings to listen to and work from and the easiest way is through MP3 format but we don’t have enough players. If you can help please see Mrs Liles, Mr Evans or Mr Hackshaw |
