Headteacher

Well three days gone, the summer hols are well and truly over and this my first blog of the new school year.
Despite a superb holiday visiting my youngest son in Thailand I am pleased to get started and it has been great seeing all the staff and students especially those new to the school. A particularly warm welcome to new members of our staff team – Eve Shilton, Vicky Hepworth and Stewart McGill all working in Maths; Dave Mulvaney Assistant Area Leader in Science and Gaynor Mairs and Laura Slater who both join our team of support professionals.
The start of term has gone well and today we begin our timetabled lessons. Hopefully we will get into the routine quickly but it will, in reality, take another week or so I suspect.
I have been delighted over the events of the summer. Our exam results were very good. I am really delighted (and relieved) at the way they have turned out.  This is the product of a good deal of hard work from students, staff and, I suspect, families as well. Many thanks to you all
A great deal of decoration and refurbishment has taken place in and around the building as part of the PFI contract but I do have to say that the site staff have worked very hard over the break to get the building looking so good.

Home Year 7 Balloon Launch
Balloon Release
Some of the Balloons have Landed
Written by N Harness

balloons3We have reports of some of the balloons having landed. The wind has blown them North of Harrogate.

Gillian from Farnham was the first to let us know that she had found a balloon: "Pretty purple balloon, I'm glad Ella likes her school"
Mr T W Thompson from Knaresborough: "I thought that the poem (Harry 7EL) was very apt as the label was found on the lawn beneath a tall tree as the sun was going down"
Andy from Bishop Thornton found a balloon whilst walking his dog on Sunday (Suhail's balloon).

D. Brackley found Zaibun's balloon near Scar House Reservoir. Marion found a balloon (Armani's) near Brimham Rocks.

"Flippin 'eck Iqram - your balloon went miles! Well done. I live in a village called Tirril and was taking my two girls aged 9 & 11 out for a bit of a walk, along with our 6mth old dog called Buster. It was a grey day with mist and snow on the mountain above us and we stopped by a rock for some veggie soup when I saw your mysterious ticket and figured out what it was with my daughters. If we win I'll share the token with them. Fun project. v best wishes Andy, Freya, and Eva"

"Hi FERN sorry your balloon only got as far as KIRK DEIGHTON. Which is just outside Wetherby I found it today Feb 17th when I was out walking my dog. Love the name FERN and have never met a dog named shadow before." Jenny

Saif Mohammed's balloon was found just north of Pateley Bridge on 11th Feb by a man walking his dog.
Another one was found at Angle Tarn in Kendal in the Lake District.

These landing have been marked on the map.

"Just to let you know that I found a balloon yesterday while in my tractor.
I know it's past the the deadline but I thought I would let you know just
out of interest. The location was DL8 4TX.
Not far away from the one that was found at scar house reservoir.

The poem on the back read - I could horse ride all day long and lots of
trips to Portugal with the hot red landscape. - sound good after the winter
we have had.

Kind regards
Richard Lambert

Balloon Launch
Written by R Chuck
balloons2On February 5th 2010, we launched 180 balloons – one for each of our year 7 students.
Year 7 students composed short pieces of verse (rhyming couplets, haiku and short pieces of figurative writing) and wrote them onto labels which were attached to a helium balloon and launched at the end of our poetry day.

How far will they go?

We will be plotting the landings on the map so you will be able to see how far they get.
