Headteacher

Well three days gone, the summer hols are well and truly over and this my first blog of the new school year.
Despite a superb holiday visiting my youngest son in Thailand I am pleased to get started and it has been great seeing all the staff and students especially those new to the school. A particularly warm welcome to new members of our staff team – Eve Shilton, Vicky Hepworth and Stewart McGill all working in Maths; Dave Mulvaney Assistant Area Leader in Science and Gaynor Mairs and Laura Slater who both join our team of support professionals.
The start of term has gone well and today we begin our timetabled lessons. Hopefully we will get into the routine quickly but it will, in reality, take another week or so I suspect.
I have been delighted over the events of the summer. Our exam results were very good. I am really delighted (and relieved) at the way they have turned out.  This is the product of a good deal of hard work from students, staff and, I suspect, families as well. Many thanks to you all
A great deal of decoration and refurbishment has taken place in and around the building as part of the PFI contract but I do have to say that the site staff have worked very hard over the break to get the building looking so good.

Arts Council England has awarded Artsmark Gold to Ralph Thoresby School in recognition of the school’s commitment to, and excellence in, arts education. Ralph Thoresby is part of the 1676 schools in England who received an Artsmark award this year.

Stuart Hemingway, Head teacher of Ralph Thoresby in Holt Park, Leeds said:
“I am delighted that the Arts Council has recognised Ralph Thoresby School’s dynamic arts education programme. Our students have really enjoyed working with the many artists and performers who enrich our arts curriculum, and I would like to thank all of our staff for their continued hard work in achieving this award”

“Artsmark is more than simply a mark of distinction to us; taking part in the scheme has enabled us to develop our arts provision, and seeing the students who take part become more self confident, engaged and excited about learning”

Alan Davey, Chief Executive, Arts Council England, said:
“Arts Council England believes that the earlier children are creatively inspired, the more likely they are going to have a lifelong engagement with the arts – something that can transform lives and give young people a voice for their thoughts and feelings”

Artsmark – now nationally recognised as a prestigious and coveted award – sets the standards for an outstanding arts provision in schools and it’s great to see so many new schools attaining the Artsmark award this year. This award recognises Ralph Thoresby School’s commitment to providing exciting art experiences and their belief in the power of creativity”
