Headteacher

Well three days gone, the summer hols are well and truly over and this my first blog of the new school year.
Despite a superb holiday visiting my youngest son in Thailand I am pleased to get started and it has been great seeing all the staff and students especially those new to the school. A particularly warm welcome to new members of our staff team – Eve Shilton, Vicky Hepworth and Stewart McGill all working in Maths; Dave Mulvaney Assistant Area Leader in Science and Gaynor Mairs and Laura Slater who both join our team of support professionals.
The start of term has gone well and today we begin our timetabled lessons. Hopefully we will get into the routine quickly but it will, in reality, take another week or so I suspect.
I have been delighted over the events of the summer. Our exam results were very good. I am really delighted (and relieved) at the way they have turned out.  This is the product of a good deal of hard work from students, staff and, I suspect, families as well. Many thanks to you all
A great deal of decoration and refurbishment has taken place in and around the building as part of the PFI contract but I do have to say that the site staff have worked very hard over the break to get the building looking so good.

The Golden Bunsen has come home

SNV32808The Golden Bunsen trophy has been won by the older team (meant to be years 9 and 10) which comprised of Yr10 students Eleanor Pratt, Jade Popple, Simran Bilkhoo and our year 8 ringer Laura Pratt.

The challenge was to make an object sink in a tank of water then rise within 60 seconds with the longest amount of time underwater gaining more points. The teams were also awarded points for teamwork and for their presentations. Our ladies were a perfect team and their presentation was delivered with confidence and charisma. They beat around 8 schools including Horsforth and Benton Park (and by default Prince Henry's who were too scared to show up after we took the trophy from them last year...) and have the gift vouchers, certificates and most importantly the Golden Bunsen to prove it!

Our team from year 7 also did well gaining a joint 3rd place. Their device worked perfectly in repeated tests but then didn't work during their presentation. Again, team work and behaviour was impeccable. They were also fantastic and confident in their presentations. Their team consisted of Faye Barson, Megan Monaghan, Sam Greig, Jonah Swift, Shoaib Munir and Kirsty Foggitt.

The teams were accompanied by Jane Morrell and Su Fradley and delivered by Julian in the minibus. Richard Smith had organised the trip.
