Headteacher

Well three days gone, the summer hols are well and truly over and this my first blog of the new school year.
Despite a superb holiday visiting my youngest son in Thailand I am pleased to get started and it has been great seeing all the staff and students especially those new to the school. A particularly warm welcome to new members of our staff team – Eve Shilton, Vicky Hepworth and Stewart McGill all working in Maths; Dave Mulvaney Assistant Area Leader in Science and Gaynor Mairs and Laura Slater who both join our team of support professionals.
The start of term has gone well and today we begin our timetabled lessons. Hopefully we will get into the routine quickly but it will, in reality, take another week or so I suspect.
I have been delighted over the events of the summer. Our exam results were very good. I am really delighted (and relieved) at the way they have turned out.  This is the product of a good deal of hard work from students, staff and, I suspect, families as well. Many thanks to you all
A great deal of decoration and refurbishment has taken place in and around the building as part of the PFI contract but I do have to say that the site staff have worked very hard over the break to get the building looking so good.

Start of year arrangements September 2010 PDF Imprimer Envoyer

I hope that your summer has been going well and that the indifferent weather has not interfered too much with your plans.
School has been a busy place during the holiday. We have had a large proportion of the building redecorated with some areas being given new flooring and furniture. It is good to see that such regular maintenance is taking place. Keeping our school environment looking bright, clean and tidy makes such a difference to us all.
By the time you read this the exam results for this year will be known. Our GCSE and A level results were good and I was very pleased that all of our Y13 students wishing to go to university have gained places – this despite the huge reduction in places reported in the media.
I thought that you might find a reminder about the arrangements for the start of term useful.

On Saturday, July 10th the local charity held a fund raising event in the precinct near Asda. Several Year 10 students volunteered to give up an hour of their time to provide live music for the event.
Hattie Moran, Molly Mesher, Izzy Poveda, Kat Thompson and Rachael Mann performed a variety of songs thanks to the technical expertise of roadie Josh Fenton. They were well received by an appreciative audience which included the Lord Mayor.

On Saturday, June 26th Mrs Liles and Mr Hackshaw took several of our students to perform on an outdoor stage on Brigate as part of this year’s Breeze Festival.
We played to a nomadic audience from 12.45-1.45 on a very hot afternoon. Katie Richardson sang 2 sets accompanied by Mr Hackshaw and the Soul Band (Tom Priestley, James Boyes, Levente Macsay and Michael Vickers) played while Molly Mesher and Beth Moxon sang.
They received very positive feedback from their audience and were interviewed for local radio.
