Headteacher

Well three days gone, the summer hols are well and truly over and this my first blog of the new school year.
Despite a superb holiday visiting my youngest son in Thailand I am pleased to get started and it has been great seeing all the staff and students especially those new to the school. A particularly warm welcome to new members of our staff team – Eve Shilton, Vicky Hepworth and Stewart McGill all working in Maths; Dave Mulvaney Assistant Area Leader in Science and Gaynor Mairs and Laura Slater who both join our team of support professionals.
The start of term has gone well and today we begin our timetabled lessons. Hopefully we will get into the routine quickly but it will, in reality, take another week or so I suspect.
I have been delighted over the events of the summer. Our exam results were very good. I am really delighted (and relieved) at the way they have turned out.  This is the product of a good deal of hard work from students, staff and, I suspect, families as well. Many thanks to you all
A great deal of decoration and refurbishment has taken place in and around the building as part of the PFI contract but I do have to say that the site staff have worked very hard over the break to get the building looking so good.

01Students are getting their hands dirty, helping to develop a new nature area at the back of their school. A large area of wasteland is currently being dug over and re-designed to make way for a host of new activities and nature areas.
Included in the plans are an activity slalom course for wheelchair users, an outdoor classroom, vegetable patches, flower beds and a nature walk. The school has longer-term ambitions to include animal and wildlife areas as well.

CareersOur first Enrichment Day is on the 13th October and for the first time we're hosting a careers fair here in school for years 7, 9 and 11. We're also hosting it until 4.30pm so parents are able to visit it after school hours if they wish; either to utilise it themselves, or to see what their children have been doing that day.

I hope that your summer has been going well and that the indifferent weather has not interfered too much with your plans.
School has been a busy place during the holiday. We have had a large proportion of the building redecorated with some areas being given new flooring and furniture. It is good to see that such regular maintenance is taking place. Keeping our school environment looking bright, clean and tidy makes such a difference to us all.
By the time you read this the exam results for this year will be known. Our GCSE and A level results were good and I was very pleased that all of our Y13 students wishing to go to university have gained places – this despite the huge reduction in places reported in the media.
I thought that you might find a reminder about the arrangements for the start of term useful.
